EBCD's activities are mainly focused on fisheries and marine issues … within the European Communities and the international fora, in particular with relations and follow up with international environmental agreements /conventions (CITES, CBD, IWC and other fisheries organizations such as the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), Sea Legal and FROs.

In relations to these issues, EBCD monitors EU and policy related to the mentioned topics; provides information analysis and advise to policy makers, users and managers worldwide; facilitates contacts with key policy-makers of the EU - informs targeted EU institutions - Commission, Parliament, Economic and Social Committee, and Council - and;undertakes EU funded conservation and development projects both in the EU and international countries;advises and facilitates access to EU funding; and organises seminars, workshops and conferences.
