Gaston Franco

Promoting forestry conservation and sustainable exploitation

Chair: MEP Gaston Franco (France, EPP, ITRE Committee)

Born on 4 February 1944 in France, MEP Gaston Franco is member of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy. Last year, he got an MEP award in recognition of his work on forest issues. Since 2001 he has been Chair of the group of forest municipalities in the Alpes-Maritimes department.

The "Forestry" Group will notably address the following issues:
  • Deforestation/illegal logging
  • Forest Strategy
  • Wood energy
  • Forest protection against calamities
  • Payments in relation to carbon fixation
  • Rural development
  • Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade
