EBCD collaborates with several organisations and institutions. EBCD and IUCN
EBCD collaborates closely with IUCN and more particularly its Marine Program, with which it provides since 1994 9the Secretariat to the European Parliament Intergroup for Sustainable Development . This Intergroup has been renamed as the Intergroup on Climate Change & Biodiversity on February 11th 2009.
Moreover, EBCD provides the Secretariat for the IUCN European Sustainable Use Specialist Group, within which EBCD Executive Director, Despina Symons, is currently Member of the Executive Committee. She is also Coordinator of its Fisheries Working Group; as well as Coordinator of the recently established Fisheries Expert Group (FEG) of the IUCN Commission of Ecosystem Management (CFM).
Despina is also Member of the Advisory Board of the Countdown 2010 InitiativeCountdown 2010 .
EBCD and the European Commission
With regard to the European Commission, EBCD collaborates with DG Fisheries & Maritime Affairs, DG Environment, DG Development, DG Trade and DG Transport & Energy.
EBCD participates in various NGO consultations and experts groups of the European Commission such as:
the Advisory Committee of Fisheries and Aquaculture (DG FISH)
the Regional Advisory Councils, RACs (DG FISH)
the Biodiversity Expert Group (DG ENV)
the Marine Strategy (DG ENV)
EBCD and International Organisations
EBCD closely follows and actively participates in the following international environmental conventions:
- World Conservation Union ( IUCN),
- Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora ( CITES ),
- Convention on Biodiversity ( CBD ),
- the Fisheries Committee of the Food and Agricultural Organisation of the United Nations ( FAO ),
- International Whaling Commission ( IWC ),
- North Atlantic Marine Mammal Commission ( NAMMCO ), and
- the Convention of Migratory Species ( CMS ).
