EBCD provides the Secretariat of  the IUCN European Sustainable Use Specialist Group ( IUCN, SSC, ESUG, FWG).

Since 1998 the ESUSG is providing input to the IUCN policy, particularly to the preparations of CBD, the IUCN Marine Programme, the World Conservation Congress as well as to EU Common Fisheries Policy, Environment, Agriculture and others.

EBCD ensures the Secretariat and coordination of the Fisheries Working Group (FWG) of the ESUSG of which Despina Symons acts as the Coordinator.

This group established in 1998, consists of fisheries and agriculture experts from all  disciplines and all regions of Europe. The group meets regularly twice a year to analyse existing European fisheries policy and management aspects, provides recommendation advice to the IUCN Marine Programme and policy makers in the EU.
