Our Activities

Director : Despina Symons

Of Greek origin, Despina Symons, Director and Member of the Board of EBCD, launched EBCD in 1989. Prior to coming to Brussels Despina Symons worked on fisheries related issues in Canada and Spain where she represented the Spanish coastal fishermen to the EU. Her international exposure as well as the 16 year experience of working closely with the EU Institutions have enabled her to develop valuable contacts in the EU and internationally. Despina Symons is currently Member of the Executive Committee of the IUCN European Sustainable Use Specialist Group and Founder and Coordinator of the Fisheries Working Group of the IUCN European Sustainable Use Specialist Group which advises the IUCN Marine Programme. Despina Symons is also member of the Executive Committee of the Countdown 2010, together with European Commission and the Council of Europe : an initiative aiming at halting the loss of biodiversity by 2010.
